Sour economy says U.S. should sharply reduce legal immigration
By Dave Gorak, 11/17/2010
It’s time to close the “Golden Door” to all but a few exceptions.

At a time when our economy has tanked and 22 million of our citizens and legal residents are unable to find full-time employment, why is the federal government still issuing 125,000 work permits every month to foreigners, many of whom have little education or skills, and permitting them to compete with Americans in a horrendous job market? Even more insulting and callous is an Obama administration, while babbling on endlessly about jobs being a “top priority,” that continues to allow 8 million illegal aliens to enjoy the dignity and satisfaction of bringing home a regular paycheck. Most of the jobs, incidentally, are not in the farm (only about 4 percent of these illegals are engaged in farming,) but in the construction, transportation, manufacturing, and service and hospitality industries.
Until our economy shows signs of a vigorous recovery and the unemployment reaches acceptable level –whatever that level may be – there simply can be no defense for maintaining the present influx of immigrants. Moving the billions of the world’s poor to this country would be as fruitless as rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Close the Golden Door to the flood of new immigrants and show the door to illegal aliens – now.
