Another Wisconsin Democrat joins war against American workers and their families

When he ran for Congress last year, Rep. Mark Pocan (D-2nd) said he would fight for Wisconsin families; now that he's in Washington he invites us to learn where he stands on jobs and the economy.

He needn't bother - we know where he stands: On the side of the nearly 12 million illegal aliens who are demanding "dignity and respect."

Pocan is the latest member of the Democratic Party to show his true colors by cosponsoring what would be the 8th amnesty since 1986. Earlier this month he added his name to the list of pandering politicians in the House of Representatives who support H.R. 15 that is a carbon copy of the Senate amnesty bill passed in June. If this bill becomes law, it would immediately give work permits to nearly all illegal aliens, including the 7 million already holding non-farming payroll jobs, and double annual legal immigration to 2 million people while 20 million American workers and legal residents are unable to find full-time employment.

And you can forget about securing our borders, because the House version further weakens the lame enforcement measures promised by the Senate.

Politicians like Pocan are the bane of a country that markets itself as a nation of laws and where everyone is supposed to have an equal shot at the American Dream. There's an irony here: The very people Pocan says he wants to help by rewarding them with legalization for disrespecting our sovereignty would instead become victims because they would have to compete harder with our citizens and legal immigrants for economic advancement in a labor pool already flooded by foreigners.

Defenders of this amnesty want us to believe that we need more immigrants because they will create jobs for Americans. Just how long are these citizens supposed to wait" A far quicker solution to ending the economic hardship now being endured by these Americans is to make E-Verify mandatory for all employers and allow them to remove the 7 million illegal workers so those jobs could be given to Americans.

As for those jobs created by immigrants, what kind are we talking about? Landscaping services? Restaurants? Domestic services? History shows that when immigrants start businesses, they tend to be very small and the first hires are usually family members and foreign-born friends. Remember, too, that the majority of immigrants arriving here have few skills and little education, and they compete for jobs with the most vulnerable of our citizens, most notably blacks.

Pocan ignores the facts surrounding this issue, including the warning from the Congressional Budget Office that amnesty would continue to depress wages for at least 10 years and unemployment would remain high.

So why has Pocan jumped on the amnesty bandwagon? It's all about political gain, i.e., helping President Obama and his ilk to make his morally bankrupt party the dominant political party for decades to come.

The American people are reminded daily that our immigration policy is "broken," but it is never explained why or by whom. The "why" means there are far too many restrictions against who gets to come here to suit the greedy business community. The "who" are the likes of Pocan who undermine the very laws they've sworn to uphold by creating more incentives for people to enter this country illegally.

Like any good politician, Pocan talks out of both sides of his mouth. While cozying up to illegal aliens with flowery rhetoric like "inclusion," "openesss," and "fair treatment for all workers," he's telling Wisconsin families and America's jobless that they are on their own.
